cv4pve course

Proxmox VE manages the hypervisor. The infrastructure you manage yourself: or you chase it, finding out about problems when the customer rings and redoing the same things by hand. This course is about being on the right side of that.

Who it is for

Anyone who runs and maintains Proxmox VE and wants to decide how, rather than fitting around what the web interface allows. Anyone arriving from VMware who has noticed that vCenter, PowerCLI and RVTools have no obvious heir. Anyone who installed the tools already and uses a tenth of them, because nobody ever showed them the rest.

Two halves

Manage

Every cluster on one screen.

  • you open one page in the morning and know how everything stands
  • backups that have not run in three weeks surface on their own
  • alerts reach you before the customer’s phone call does
  • the report for the audit is exported, not written
  • snapshots, diagnostics and metrics inside the interface, not commands to remember
  • who sees what: permissions per cluster, without handing out the keys

Automate

What you were doing by hand, written down once.

  • the PowerCLI scripts you had for VMware, rebuilt in PowerShell
  • the infrastructure inventory in Excel when you need it: in place of RVTools
  • snapshots before every update, and the cleaning up afterwards
  • the health check that runs overnight and mails you only if it finds something
  • the commands inside your existing scripts, without touching the nodes
  • giving a script the permissions it needs, and not one more

The programme adapts. The above is an outline. If you are coming from VMware we start from the scripts you already have and rebuild them in front of you; if you run several clusters we start from how they stand today.

Why us

We write the tools, public since 2016 and downloaded over half a million times from the PowerShell Gallery alone: by sysadmins for sysadmins, out of the clusters we run every day. In the room we do not read the documentation: we tell you why each thing is built the way it is, what it does not do, and what to do when it is not enough.

What we work with

  • Official Proxmox partner: see our entry on the Proxmox site
  • Ceph in production
  • Built on .NET

How it runs

In our classroom

A real cluster to try commands and scripts on without fear.

At your offices

On your own clusters: by the end of the day the scripts actually run.

Online

When people are in different places or time is short.

There is a Proxmox VE course too

The tools need a cluster that stands up: installation, high availability, backups and what really changes from VMware.
